Editor M's inspiration..
About two days ago I asked my fellow friends & followers on instagram (@Editor__M) who do they aspire to be like?
To me from the moment I saw a group of editors on the TV show project runway season 1 giving brutal feedback to the designers about their work, I knew right at that moment I wanted to be someone like them, not that they were mean! I fell in love with every detail they pointed a finger at, every word that described how wrong the proportions were, how the color schemes were off, how the tailoring wasn't so good, the beauty, the madness, the boldness, the power.. how they knew the names of each pattern cut, the names of each fabric, how they described the texture,.. I knew that these people know what they were talking about! .. So back then I did my first research about fashion editors it was self tutoring mostly, back then I was 14 years old when I saw my first fashion show, what was funny was how I actually was monitoring the movement of each editor siting in the front row seat taking notes instead watching the show and the designs. I knew here that this is my dream job to work as an editor for a magazine or a website. Of course since we're living in Kuwait City we have to have a college degrees in the business field that is not associated with whatever your dream is, whether it was photography, cooking, drawing, swimming, basketball or fashion. My college degree is in finance. This post is just a form of appreciation to those who have helped me and inspired me to be the woman I am today in the fashion business here in Kuwait, to answer your question yes I was a legit fashion& review editor / product & models stylist for a year & a half for a multibrand website for the middle east located here in Kuwait. You can read all about my experiences in my previous job in older posts
Below I will be mentioning those editors from all around the world who were an inspiration to me, of course editors & icons here in Kuwait have inspired me as well who I will also be mentioning later on in another post.
Nina Garcia ( currently creative director & editor Marie Claire USA )
When someone mentions the name Nina Garcia this what goes through my mind ans what I immediately remember, she got her start in the fashion industry in the early 1990s, working in the public relations department of Perry Ellis under head designer Marc Jacobs at first, she then moved into the world of fashion journalism where she took the position of an assistant stylist and marketing editor at the women's magazine (Mirabella). In 1995 Nina left Mirabella for Elle magazine, where she rose to the position of fashion director in 2000, and eventually to the position of editor-at-large. I know inspiring and amazing !!
During her first years as an editor she avoided the spotlight "I never wanted to be famous," said Nina Garcia, However, when Elle publisher Carol Smith devised the idea for a reality TV show to boost the magazine's popularity, she was thrust into the national spotlight. In 2004, she was tapped to serve as a judge on Project Runway, I mean who doesn't know project runway right?. What I love about her is her sometimes brutal honestly and feedback but she is not afraid of showing how much she loved a piece or how it made her feel "impeccable" is on of her famous words haha.
I started with Nina because I know she is a public figure and everybody know her, but now I'll show you guys more fashion editors who are not necessarily famous or known in the middle east. starting with Australian Vogue senior Fashion editor
Christine Centenera
She was once the fashion editor of Harper's Bazaar Australia, and is now currently a senior editor at Vogue Australia! Not only that but she is also a freelance stylist and has been working with Kanye West to create a fashion line. What I love most about her personal style is that it is so laid back and wearable. True, most of her clothes are straight off the runway but she wears them so effortlessly. With Christine it's all about the clothes; she's always leaving her hair and make-up simple to put more emphasis on the fashion. And the more I see her in different looks, the more I fall in love with her unique style!
Another female editor that has her own significant signature look Marie Claire USA red head Ms Taylor Tomasi Hill is the style and accessories director for US Marie Claire magazine

Another female editor that has her own significant signature look Marie Claire USA red head Ms Taylor Tomasi Hill is the style and accessories director for US Marie Claire magazine
Taylor worked for W magazine as an editor, she was also the creative director at Moda Operandi "Moda Operandi is the only place to preorder looks straight from the runway through online designer trunkshows—months before they are available anywhere else." ...
what excites me about knowing Taylor is not only she's an editor but also she worked at Moda Operandi which is somehow like my start up at Thouqi.com .. I could be like her one day .. hopefully
next is Paris Vogue editor Emmanuelle Alt editor-in-chief of Vogue Paris.
She first worked as an editor at Mixte magazine.
What I like about her is that she has a makeup free youthful appearance and often wears jeans while eschewing dresses and skirts. She is often found dressed in her signature blazers or jackets, paired with skinny jeans and towering heels. Very sophisticated.
Next is my favorite favorite editor. . Editor-in-chief of Vogue Mexico! M's Kelly Talamas
Kelly Talamas was an editor at Vogue and after The editor-in-chief got a higher position Kelly was offered the job .. she did an amazing job what I love about her is how she simple she looks, she loves prints but she never exaggerates with what she's wearing.
Kelly saying "I’VE GOTTEN TO WHERE I AM, because I knew what I wanted to do. I love writing and I love fashion, so I went down this path. Looking back, I’d definitely tell my 18 year old self to keep going, follow your heart and to always push the envelope. You know those things that worry you when you were young, they aren’t that important. Follow your gut and be very persistent in following your dreams.
I just mentioned that Kelly Talamas Vogue Mexico & Latin America editor-in-chief never exaggerates with what she's wearing... our next editor is all about exaggerating in what she wears her point is loud and her clothes screams her style!
Vogue Japan editor Anna Dello Russo
Anna Dello Russo worked first at Vogue Italia. She was always a fashion maniac! Her voice in fashion and statements in what she wears is so loud! But she's so unique and always makes it work.. you think it's too much for you but you love it on her even tho sometimes it's too much for the eyes yet it's a piece of art she's definitely one of my favorites!
Speaking of statements and significant signature looks my next editor has the " hair for it "
she’s an ex model but her style is unique, confident and forward thinking. I love how she mixes one-of-a-kind vintage pieces with items straight off the runways. At just 23, she’s the editor of the U.K.’s Wonderland Magazine.
My next editor started as Dolce and Gabbana Italian model. She's currently is a Contributing Fashion Editor to W Magazine, Senior Fashion editor at Vogue Japan. Giovanna Battaglia
Giovanna is known to put together sophisticated, polished looks infusing them with a fun, playful edge, whether in her work or in her own personal style, after working closely on set with photographers & designers, she then decided to become a stylist. Starting as a fashion editor atL’Uomo Vogue under then Editor-in-Chief Anna Dello Russo. She then began contributing to other Condé Nast publications, including Vogue China, German Vogue, Vogue Paris, and, later, newer publications such as Garage Magazine and exit.
My next editor is blonde! & British known to giving harsh feedback as a mentor for the TV show project runway All stars. Zanna Roberts Rassi - Marie Claire USA senior Fashion editor
Zanna Roberts Rassi is an award-winning fashion & beauty journalist♡ stylist and television host. She holds the position of Senior Fashion Editor at Marie Claire USA. Prior to this, she held the title of Beauty and Style Director of Marie Claire UK. Her role as Senior Fashion Editor involves conceptualizing and styling fashion editorials and covers. Best job in the world right? She's amazing!
My next editor also has her own significant signature look and a lovely high-end boy-ish fashion forward haircut! Kate Lanphear - editor-in-chief of Maxim Magazine.
Kate Lanphear was the style director of Elle USA started her career in fashion in Australia.she is known for her strong sense of dress, platinum blonde locks & punky style. Kate's style is both androgynous and glamourous. Although she thinks of herself as a fashion geek, claiming her style is more "potluck". She used to be working in the United States, Kate worked for eight years in Sydney at Vogue (Australia) and Harper's Bazaar (Australia). She then returned to the USA where she landed a role at Harper's Bazaar. It wasn't long before she was offered the role of senior fashion editor at Elle and then style director in 2008.
Of course Anna wintour editor-in-chief of Vogue America & grace coddington creative director of Vogue America & Carine roitfeld Vogue paris editor-in-chief are all known for their work, their styles and their fabulous job their doing at their magazines and in the fashion industry, they'll need a whole new post! And it won't do them justice. Hope you enjoyed getting to know my favorite editors! Which was your favorite? X
