The difference between Fashion editor, Stylist, Style icon and a fashionista..
ps: I don't think the information below can be found in google :p i'm just saying..
happy reading hope what I wrote is helpful xx
So a lot of people nowadays do not know how to differentiate between a fashion editor's job, a stylist's job and a fashionista's job ( that's not a job but here in kuwait i guess everything is since social media has all the power now) Also people are often mistaking my job as a fashionista!! and they're calling me that which truly annoys me!.. once I mention that I have a job in fashion they immediately say the word "fashionista" ! which is why i'll be explaining briefly to those who don't know the difference and want to know:
1.
A fashionista is someone who's too dressy and follows the trends non stop whether it was a cool trend a funky trend an inappropriate trend they don't care, all a fashionista cares about is following the next big trend, whether it was hair or make up or clothing! And they don't necessarily know fashion they love fashion but they don't know fashion there is a huge difference! Most of time their fashion knowledge is too basic. Nowadays especially here in kuwait people are mistaking fashion promoters as fashionistas or to be more specific they are calling them fashionistas when they are really only fashion promoters sometimes it all gets so confusing because they all mix everything together I mean they mix jobs together so they all say whatever it is it's all the same when it's not.
2.
A fashion editor : someone who discovers the trends they sit down front row at every fashion show and write down each season what the designers went for as trends but don't necessarily follow as in wear all the trends they just know them all "like I do" :p and have studied fashion school books and everything from fashion history to textile books to color schemes books etc and know every detail in a silhouette or a piece, because part of writing a review of a runway or a piece of clothing you have to describe what you saw or what is the piece in front of you made of exactly and completely, read a couple of celebrity fashion books and actually have a legit job as a website fashion editor, a magazine fashion editor, a newspaper fashion editor or in fashion journalism. Most importantly knows what they're talking about in an interview or while giving advice or makeovers. Covered fashion knowledge.
3.
A style icon is someone who doesn't necessarily follow all the trends but create amazing different
fashion forward styles with vintage pieces, mixing prints, mixing colors something that gives her her own signature where people would recognize her style on you if tried copying it and where "boho chic, bicker chic, casual fancy, french style, classic , bold looks, funk, grunge, edgy and preppy came from.
4.
A stylist is someone who has a better taste than those who request a stylist someone who is good at mixing and matching, working on separates making them appear even more different looking in each style what i call the power of restyling separates :p .. for me she better have studied or has a background about color schemes and how it works, a couple of fashion techniques where you make a heavier woman look thin, a tall girl look normal, a skinny girl looks fit and know hot high areas people do not like others to focus on because it makes them feel uncomfortable. Now to me I often say my opinion when my client or someone i'm styling requests my help because I also like them to find themselves not just style them for a day or more and they end up not learning anything about what they like to wear or how to dress themselves. Also there is another job where a stylist works with models and products make them appear flawless and perfect on or without a model for production.
